Sweets & Cream Supports Local Organization that Helps Developmentally Disabled Individuals
TULSA, Okla., (June 18, 2019) Throughout the month of May, Sweets & Cream partnered with A New Leaf as its Tips for Charity recipient. The charitable initiative is in full force year-round with an end-goal of supporting local non-profit organizations with their missions of working towards the betterment of the Tulsa community and the people that are a part of it. The ongoing effort of giving back to the community is a main objective of the ice cream cookie sandwich shop located at 11th & Yale. The generous donations that were collected for A New Leaf totaled $1282.91.
As a result of the many that gave towards this cause, Tips for Charity was able to support A New Leaf and its important mission of providing individuals with developmental disabilities with life skills, marketable job training through horticultural therapy, community-based vocational placement, and residential services to increase independence and individual choices. At present time, the organization serves 325 individuals with developmental disabilities and autism through employment in five greenhouses, two retail centers, community job sites, students in the classroom, and individuals in residences.
Sweets & Cream hosted a Sweet Blossoms event - in collaboration with A New Leaf - in which the organization brought a few of their items from the garden center for customers to purchase. Many Tulsa area patrons came out to support the joint efforts of the organizations and to learn more about A New Leaf's 1979 initiation to provide horticultural-related job training to adults with developmental disabilities.
